I am a self taught artist living in the beautiful Appalachian hills of Athens county Ohio. As an artist I am particularly drawn to organic forms and materials and abstract styles. I generally let my art create itself from an initial few areas of color. Often, the process involves many layers of paint as I continue to work with what I see until I reach some point of conclusion that is satisfying.
An artists’ works are a visual record of a life unfolding. It is the vehicle through which something greater than our single vision might be expressed. The challenge, as with life, is to relinquish control to the greater creative power. We must lose judgement, open ourselves and respond to the flow of each moment.
I have not found or am sure that I want to find, my true artist “voice”. It is the seeking of that ultimate voice which I find so enjoyable. I live in the woods, completely off-grid and spend every spare moment in my chicken-coop-turned-art-studio, merrily seeking to expand my artistic range with positive input from the unknown. There is absolutely nothing I'd rather do with my time.
In the past I was a furniture and floorcloth artist specializing in custom floorcloths and painted furniture. Now, due to studio size limitations, I have transitioned into creating wall art. In late 2016 I submitted works for consideration, for the first time ever, to a juried call for art. I was fortunate enough to have two works accepted and have one of them sell while in the exhibition (Athens Voice 2017 - Dairy Barn Arts Center). I hope to continue to create and participate in future events in and around my local area.
